Llamas in Pyjamas, by Russell Punter and David Semple, is a fun rhyming book that is part of the Usborne Phonics Readers set. It is a great, lively story to share. Or for beginner readers to have a go.
It is abut 3 Llama friends who are going to their friend Frankie’s for a sleepover. The story describes the 4 friends antics during their sleepover and the pyjamas they are wearing! At the end of Llamas in Pyjamas you will be able to find out just what goes ‘bump’ and ‘clank’ in the dark.
I personally love Usborne’s Phonics readers as does my 5 year old son who I often have difficulty in getting to read. In this particular book there is a section at the end about Phonics. It gives the adult sharing the book a guide about starting to read, phonic awareness and advice on when hearing your child read. It also guides you to Usborne’s Very First Reading site where you can find out more about phonics.
The illustrations in this book by David Semple are lively, colourful and fun. They enable interaction throughout the book with reader and listener. But also for beginner readers they can use the illustrations to tell the story. Or to use as a guide when decoding the words through the story.
I would highly recommend Llamas in Pyjamas to both share with your child and to encourage first reading.
The following information has been taken from my Independent Usborne Organiser website, www.mymagicalbookshop.co.uk.
- A lively rhyming story with humorous and irresistible illustrations, which uses phonic repetition specially designed to help children learn to read.
- Sam, Ali and Charlie all yell with delight, there’s a creepy sleepover at Frankie’s tonight! They pick out pyjamas with stripes, spots and dots, with their packs on their backs off to Frankie’s they trot.
- The simple rhyming text helps to develop essential language and early reading skills, and there are guidance notes for parents at the back of the book.
