Tuesday 7th February 2017 is Safer Internet Day. I have 3 children myself and it amazes me, at their young ages, what they are able to do with technology. What scares me the most though is the hidden dangers of being on-line. How vulnerable could our children really be to these dangers?
My children’s school made a day of this today. Right from the children aged 4 up to those aged 11. I feel that it is so important to teach our children from a young age the dangers of being on-line. We are now a society that relies heavily on technology and social media. So instead of shying away from the dangers we need to bring them to the fore front of all of our minds.
So how can My Magical Bookshop and Usborne help with Internet Safety? Staying Safe Online is a brilliant book aimed at children aged 9 and over. This book gives children the tools and guidance about staying safe on line. But on a level easy for them to understand.
The following is the information taken from my website regarding this book:
‘The internet is full of amazing possibilities but, just like the real world, there are a lot of potential dangers and difficulties too. You need to know what to watch out for and how to protect yourself. Whether you’re worried about oversharing on social media or coming across dangerous people, this guide gives you tips and tools to take control and stay safe online.’
So in our ever changing world we need to look at the dangers that simply weren’t present when we were younger. The internet is an amazing tool for both young and old alike. Let’s make sure our children are shown the safest way to use it.
